LAGOS, NIGERIA (ANS) December 26, is known as boxing day all over the world. But that date may no longer be known by Christians in Nigeria as boxing day, rather it will be regarded as JESUS DAY, if the plan for a JESUS 50 Million People March every December 26 succeeds. This march is being organized by World Rescue Ministries International (WORMINT). It is hoped that every church that calls the name Jesus will participate in the nation wide marching.

December 26, is known as boxing day all over the world. This kind of event has some similarities in the past though not exactly in the form of marching. Another difference is that this time the anticipated number of participants has swelled, making the planning more elaborate and painstaking. Pictured: a cross- section of some Christians in Lagos during a special event. In 1984, the visioner of WORMINT, Prince Ben Ukadike received a revelation from the Lord as to the power in the name JESUS. In response, he produced stickers inscribed with the name JESUS and also made several billboards bearing the name JESUS. Those were sited at strategic locations all over Lagos.

Speaking during a recent press briefing at the International Press Center, Lagos, Nigeria Ukadike enthusiastically revealed that he shared the vision with the late Rev. Dr. Odunaike, former General Overseer of Four Square Gospel Church in Nigeria. That led to the kick-starting of a project known as UNITED JESUS EASTER RALLY (UJER). The rally brought Christians of various chosen centers all over Nigeria. There were ten such centers in Lagos alone.

Christian bodies such as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and prominent Christian leaders including the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa were involved with the rallies. It held on Easter Mondays, and culminated in the shouting of the name JESUS into the air at the various rally centers throughout the country at exactly 12 noon.

The idea behind the rally was to counter the evil effects of the aftermath of FESTAC ‘79 (Festival of Black Arts and Culture). That festival hosted by Nigeria in 1977 presumably gave room for the invasion of Nigeria by all sorts of evil forces under the guise of Black Arts and culture. Many people say that Black Arts and Culture involve voodoo practice, magic and idol worship and not a few believe that the various woes which Nigeria experienced are traceable to FESTAC 77.

The rallies of the ‘80s were short lived due mainly to the financial burden, which was born by the visioner, and the sudden demise of Rev. Dr. Odunaike. But the question is, why revisit the whole idea of rallies on a specific month and date? Ben Ukadike, the man who received the vision explains that with the recent catastrophic events globally, such as Tsunami, Katrina, the multiple plane crashes and various bus tragedies involving numerous loss of lives, it has become obvious that satanic forces were having a field day and needed to be curbed.

He said the Lord began to remind him of the revelation as to the power in JESUS name. That the name JESUS is the antidote to the world’s miseries as well as terror to forces of darkness causing the miseries.

This vision is taking Nigeria’s Christians by storm and thousands are daily embracing it as the mobilizing team, working under the auspices of WORMINT visit church after church sharing the vision of a great march of JESUS PEOPLE that will take place, come December 26, 2006 in all 36 states of Nigeria.

At each of the numerous meetings convened to fine-tune logistic in respect of the JESUS 50 million people march, testimonies were shared and each of the testimony showed clearly the power in the name JESUS. One man said he was reminded of his wife’s friend who lost her husband, a marketing manager of a multinational outfit who died in a fatal auto accident while on an official journey to the northern part of Nigeria. The British general manager of the multinational company, in company with some senior staff went to the funeral in a chartered light aircraft.

On their way back from the funeral, the aircraft ran into turbulent weather over Escravos in the Delta creeks of southern Nigeria. The following morning villagers on their way to their farms saw what seemed to be a piece of cloth hanging from a tree. On closer examination, they found that he was one of the passengers on the ill-fated aircraft. That when the air craft was vibrating in the turbulence he shouted the name JESUS! As he did that, he suddenly found himself on the tree inexplicably. The plane crashed with the loss of life of every other person including the expatriate general manager of the company.

It would be recalled that same years back, a Nigeria airways plane crashed close to Enugu airport in the eastern part of Nigeria. Seated in that plane with his daughter was a member of the Celestial Church of Christ in Nigeria. As the plane nose dived to destruction, the man held on to his daughter and shouted the name JESUS! He found himself and his daughter in the nearby bush, away from the doomed aircraft completely unhurt.

The popular Nigeria movie Living in Bondage shows the incident of the young lady who was slated for a ritual sacrifice. As she was taken into the slaughter room, she shouted the name JESUS! The high priest of the cult staggered back and ordered her immediate release as he found himself powerless at the mention of the name JESUS.

Christians in Nigeria are imagining and discussing what it would look like if 50 million people wear JESUS T-Shirts, JESUS caps and carry JESUS flag. The name JESUS would be inscribed in red color against a white background. In Lagos, former capital city of Nigeria, for example, cars and buses with the sticker – JESUS is fast becoming a common sight. To compliment these are the JESUS banners, JESUS vehicles, JESUS T.V. slots, JESUS radio shouts, JESUS newspaper slots and JESUS Internet pop ups. And this looks like evangelism strategy unprecedented, besides the unity that this development would definitely foster amongst the various church denominations in Nigeria.

Applying the subliminal strategy, for instance, planners of JESUS 50 million people march see a situation where a visitor calls on the CEO of an organization. The visitor has a JESUS badge pinned to his clothes. The CEO looks up and sees the JESUS badge. He probably says nothing about the badge nor does the visitor. But like it or not, his inner man or his subconscious mentions JESUS.

As the CEO leaves his office and drives along the road he sees the billboards proclaiming the name JESUS. He further sees the numerous vehicles with the JESUS stickers. He drives further and sees a man wearing the JESUS cap and JESUS T-shirt. Just as the consistent drops of water on a particular spot over a long period will erode even a stone surface, so will the CEO’s heart of stone be melted. He starts asking questions as the meaning of all these JESUS all over the place. And is thus led to Christ by somebody.
