Ahmadinejad Letter Criticizes Bush Administration Policies

Iran’s President Deplores US Policies in Letter to American People

WASHINGTON - Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has harshly criticized the Middle East policies of the Bush administration in an open letter to the American people.

In the letter released at the United Nations Wednesday, Mr. Ahmadinejad deplored in particular U.S. support for Israel and the U.S. military presence in Iraq.

The Iranian president said the United States has “persistently provided blind and blanket support” to Israel - despite the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He also said the pain and suffering of the Iraqi people has persisted and even been aggravated during the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

President Bush has stated repeatedly that he considers Iran to be a threat to world peace because of its alleged program to develop nuclear weapons.

The United States has been pressing the U.N. Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran for its program to enrich uranium. Iran says its nuclear program is intended to produce energy, not atomic weapons.
