JERUSALEM - At least three rockets have been fired into northern Israel from Lebanon - on the 13th day of Israel’s offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Officials say the rockets fell around the town of Nahariya Thursday, south of the Lebanese border, slightly wounding two people. The Israeli army says it returned fire into Lebanon, aiming at the source of the attack.
The Lebanese government condemned the attack and said it is trying to determine who launched the rockets.
Lebanon’s Information minister Tareq Mitri said he does not believe the Lebanese-militant group, Hezbollah, is responsible.
On Wednesday, Hezbollah’s leader warned Israel that it cannot destroy Hamas and said Hezbollah is ready to fight Israel if attacked. The two sides fought a brief war in 2006.
In Gaza today, Israeli warplanes carried out new strikes on suspected arms-smuggling tunnels in town of Rafah, near the Egyptian border. Israeli air strikes were also reported in the northern Gaza Strip, killing at least three Palestinians linked to the Islamic Jihad militant group.
Israel resumed its offensive in Gaza Wednesday after a three-hour halt to allow in humanitarian aid. Israel has said it is halting its offensive for three hours each day between 1100 and 1400 GMT.
Palestinian medics estimate that more than 700 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began, while at least nine people have died on the Israeli side.
